Game 1: PVCC 3, CNCC 2 (7)
The Pumas beat Colorado Northwestern 3-2 in game one of afour game series on January 30 after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run.
Both teams were strong on the bump. Puma pitchers struck out nine, while Colorado Northwestern sat down six.
A ground out by Matt Stewart put the Pumas on the board in the bottom of the first. After Colorado Northwestern tied the game in the top of the third, the Pumas re-took the lead in the bottom of the third. Coby Neville doubled, scoring one run, to give the Pumas the lead, 2-1.
Noah Coakes earned the win for the Pumas. The reliever gave up two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking none. Keith Eusebio stepped on the mound first for the Pumas. The hurler allowed one hit and two runs (one earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking four. Dylan Droelle collected the save.
Neville and Stewart were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the Pumas.
Game 2: PVCC 7, CNCC 9 (7)
Bats were blistered in game two of the double header, but the Pumas couldn't quite get the job done against Colorado Northwestern and lost 9-7. Colorado Northwestern collected seven hits, while the Pumas had six.
Devon Hewitt took the loss for the Pumas. The righty went three innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out five and walking two.
Jackson Marazzo, Gavin Gehrman, Jakob Chavez, Jude Almaraz, Colton Figueroa, and Tre Savoie each collected one hit for the Pumas. Figuerora led the team with one run batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day.
Saturday, January 31
Game 1: PVCC 4, CNCC 2 (7)
The Pumas took down Colorado Northwestern 4-2 in game one of a double header on January 31 at Paradise Valley Community College.
The Pumas got on the board in the first inning after Aiden Woolwine singled, scoring two runs. A double by Colton Figueroa extended the Pumas lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning. The Pumas scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to right field by Keith Eusebio.
Kaleb Williams earned the win for the Pumas. The pitcher allowed three hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Jayden Martinez collected the save.
Woolwine provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the team with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Woolwine and Jude Almaraz each collected two hits for the Pumas.
Game 2: PVCC 7, CNCC 1 (7)
The Pumas defeated Colorado Northwestern 7-1 in the final game of the four game series thanks in part to four runs in the fourth inning. Chris Quigg doubled, scoring one run; Easton Casper singled, scoring one run; and Gavin Gehrman singled, scoring two runs.
Grey Gusich earned the win for the Pumas. The right-handed pitcher allowed four hits and one run over four innings, striking out six and walking none. Mason Lizarraga and Dylan Droelle each threw shutout innings for the Pumas in relief.
The Pumas amassed nine hits in the game. Casper and Quigg were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits and drove in two runs for the Pumas.
Defensively, the Pumas were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Casper had the most chances in the field with eight.
