Women's Soccer wrapped up its 2025 season with a dramatic 2-2 draw against Chandler-Gilbert on Monday night. Originally scheduled as the final home game on October 11, the weather postponed the match and it was moved to CGCC due to a scheduling conflict.
The Pumas wasted no time making an impact. In the 6th minute, Tori Wefel-Hayes opened the scoring off a crisp assist from Diane Williams, putting the Pumas up 1-0. Just a minute later, Wefel-Hayes turned provider, assisting Mercedez Gallegos for a clinical second goal, giving the Pumas a quick 2-0 lead and complete early momentum.
PVCC maintained its lead deep into the second half with strong defensive organization and goalkeeping. However, CGCC mounted a late comeback. The Coyotes pulled one back in the 84th minute through Alivia Waite, then found the equalizer in the final moments, with Brooklynne Murray scoring in the 90th minute to level the match 2-2.
Despite the heartbreak of conceding late, Puma head coach Ernie Santa Cruz praised his team's competitive mindset:
"I'm incredibly proud of the way our team came out and set the tone early," said Santa Cruz. "Even though we didn't get the win, the way our players competed, executed, and refused to quit reflects the character of this group. It was a strong finish to a season full of growth."
The draw caps a season where the Pumas showcased resilience, development, and team-first play - qualities that lay a solid foundation for future success.
