GAME 1: PVCC 14, GCC 3 (5)
Emily Esparza collected three hits in four at bats, as the Pumas defeated Glendale Gauchos 14-3 in game one of the double header on Tuesday. Esparza singled in the fourth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the second inning.
After the Gauchos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, the Pumas flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Hailey Barco that drove in three.
The Pumas scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shay Valenti was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Jalyssa Vasquez drew a walk, scoring one run, Shyla Vasquez drew a walk, scoring one run, Ebanie Santana singled, scoring one run, Barco singled, scoring one run, and Esparza singled, scoring two runs.
Brianna Sanchez stepped in the circle Pumas. The starter gave up seven hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out four and walking one.
Barco led the Pumas with four runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Jenna Musselwhite collected two hits for the Pumas in three at bats. Anahi Rocha the team with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.
GAME 2: PVCC 7, GCC 4
The Pumas were triumphant over the Gauchos 7-4 in game two of the double header on Tuesday.
The Gauchos were the first to get on the board in the first inning with a three run homerun.
Their lead did not last long as the Pumas jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Kiarah Delgado drew a walk, scoring one run, Erin Smith singled, scoring two runs, and an error scored one run.
Shay Valenti homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth the Pumas.
Shyla Vasquez opened the game for the Pumas. The hurler surrendered nine hits and four runs (one earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Brianna Sanchez got the last two outs of the game for the Pumas to earn the save.
Valenti, the number nine hitter for the Pumas, led the way with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-2 on the day. Jenna Musselwhite led the Pumas with three hits in four at bats. Anahi Rocha collected two hits for the Pumas in three at bats. Defensively, the team turned one double play in the game.
The Pumas next face Scottsdale Community College at home on Saturday, April 11 at 12:00pm.
