Pumas Can't Hold Up Against Chandler-Gilbert
The Pumas had trouble keeping up with Chandler-Gilbert in a 15-4 loss on Saturday.
PV captured the lead in the first inning when Jordyn Cromer hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Chandler-Gilbert took the lead for good with three runs in the second inning. The Coyotes then added on 11 more runs in the third inning.
Jazlyn Romero started the game for Pumas. The pitcher allowed 15 hits and 15 runs over three innings. Cromer threw two innings out of the bullpen.
The Pumas socked one home run on the day when sophomore Thalia Higuera had a four-bagger in the fourth inning.
The Pumas collected eight hits during the game. Higuera and Ashley Herman each collected two hits to lead the team.
Game 2: CGCC 14, PVCC 13 (8)
Chandler-Gilbert Defeats Resilient Pumas
The Pumas took an early lead putting up six in the first inning. They then fell behind but fought back after falling down by five runs in the fifth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 14-13 extra-inning defeat to Chandler-Gilbert on Saturday. The Pumas managed five runs in the failed comeback attempt. Jazlyn Romero, Jordyn Cromer, and Peyton Krause all picked up RBIs in the rally.
The Pumas were right in it until the Coyotes doubled in the eighth inning to take the lead.
The Pumas got things moving in the first inning when Emily Viramontes singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
The Pumas knotted the game up at 13 in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Romero hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
Cromer started the game for the Pumas. The righty surrendered six runs on three hits over two innings, striking out one. Romero threw six innings in relief out of the bullpen.
The Pumas had one long ball when Romero went yard in the fifth inning.
The Pumas tallied 12 hits on the day. Krause, Cromer, and Maegan Viramontes each collected two hits to lead the Pumas.
